Are there any ergonomic considerations for height adjustable gaming desks?
Gamers may spend hours at a computer in order to play different games, not realising how much time has passed in some cases, so good posture and ergonomics are important to protect your back. A height adjustable gaming desk should be set to your height and eye level, so you can game without doing damage to your back and neck.
Proper posture will ensure you have healthy circulation and minimises the risk of stress and strain to your neck and wrists. This enables you to enjoy gaming for longer without discomfort and prevents health conditions and pain from developing when you play for longer periods.
Gaming requires coordination and a clear view of the screen, and it’s affected by the right posture. If a gaming desk is set too high or too low, your viewing angle will be distorted, which affects your ability to game properly. It also puts excessive stress on your neck, arms and shoulders.
Table of Contents
The right height for a gaming desk is between 28 and 30”, from the floor to the top of the desk. This standard height suits people who are between 5’8” and 5’10” in height, enabling the arms to bend at the right angle and the back to be straight, with the computer at eye level. Naturally, if you’re taller or shorter than this, you should adjust the height accordingly.
Under your desk, ensure there is plenty of clearance for your knees, thighs and feet. It’s also worth using a footrest to support your feet when you’re sitting down, or an anti-fatigue mat for when you’re standing to protect your joints and knees. Don’t store items under your desk as this can lead to you sitting in awkward positions which can damage your back and knees.
Similarly, when you’re sitting upright, the monitor should be set at eye level beneath the horizontal edge of the screen, meaning if you look straight ahead at the monitor, the top frame of the screen should be directly in front of you.
What is the maximum weight capacity of a height adjustable gaming desk?
You are no doubt used to a traditional, static desk which means that the weight capacity of the item isn’t likely to have been a consideration before. But with an adjustable desk, you need to know how much weight the desk can tolerate because it can affect the functionality of the product.
The pneumatic motor will have a limit of what it can carry and still move without difficulty, so you need to be conscious of how heavy the items are that you want to store on your desk if you want to be able to use the standing feature of your desk without causing damage to the motor.
Standing desks can typically hold anywhere from 30 to 700 lbs, with most carrying between 150 and 200 lbs depending on the model and the size of the desk. A higher quality desk will usually have a higher weight capacity than a lower-end model.
It’s important to calculate how much equipment you want to put on the desk, from monitors and speakers to gaming consoles, so you can be sure that the desk will be able to move up and down with the equipment on it. These items need to be distributed evenly across the desktop to ensure the motor can operate efficiently.
There are also several other considerations to make when choosing a suitable desk. For example, a sturdy desk frame will ensure that the desk can handle the weight placed on it. The weight capacity of the desk may not take into account the tabletop, so this should be factored into your calculations.
Can I customise the appearance of a height adjustable gaming desk?
The appearance of your gaming desk is important. As such a large item of furniture in a room, you don’t want to make compromises on how it looks – it should be in keeping with your décor tastes but also functional for your needs. Naturally, you can also customise your desk in terms of the size and shape. Our gaming desks come in several size configurations to suit your property and your own height, as well as the amount of gaming equipment you want to store on it. You can add additional features to your desk too, such as cable ports or trays to keep the desk organised, or monitor arms for flexibility.
We recommend using a soft anti-fatigue mat for when you want to game standing up, as this will protect your joints and feet from discomfort when standing for long periods, as well as under desk storage for keeping your desktop tidy and free from clutter. We offer several options for accessories that work with your desk set-up to create a comfortable and practical space for gaming.
What are the dimensions of a typical height adjustable gaming desk?
Gamers may use several monitors, along with other tech accessories such as keyboards, CPUs and sound equipment. So the size of the desk is a key feature to check when buying a height adjustable gaming desk. The width and depth of your desk is important to ensure a comfortable gaming experience and the ability to use the desk without experiencing discomfort. With the right sized desk, your gaming experience will be seamless and easier.
The ideal size for a gaming desk varies depending on the amount of computing equipment you have. Usually the dimensions of a single computer monitor is between 19” and 26”, so you would need a gaming desk between 20” and 60” in width for your monitor to fit comfortably. Likewise, if your CPU is between 10” and 20”, you will need to increase the width to 32” to 74”.
Before buying a gaming desk, you need to know that the desk you choose will not just cover the depth of your tech equipment but also the ideal distance between your face and the monitor screen. This distance is ideally around 24”, and a CPU alone can usually measure that in depth. There are customised CPUs you can buy which are smaller, but some may even exceed this depth.
So it’s worth checking the depth size based on the CPU you have. If your CPU is around 24”, you will need a desk with dimensions of 50”. Likewise, if you use two monitors, you’ll need to increase the width of the desk to accommodate this additional width.
